건축은 아무것도 아닙니다. 하지만 건축은 마치 공기와 같이 항상 우리 곁에 있어서 의식하지 못하지만 없어서는 안될 무엇보다도 중요한 것입니다. 건축은 주인공이 아닙니다. 단지 우리네 삶의 배경입니다. 깨끗한 공기안에서 사람들 삶이 건강해지듯이 건축 또한 조용히 그리고 아름답고 쓸모있게 사람의 삶을 담는 그릇이기를 바랍니다. 저희 에이오에이 아키텍츠 건축사사무소는 삶에 가치를 더하는 공간과 명료한 구축을 통해 모든 사람과 사물 그리고 장소가 보다 풍요롭고 건강한 관계를 맺을 수 있도록 노력합니다.
Architecture is nothing. However, architecture is more significant than any others like air in our life. Architecture is not a hero. Architecture is just a backstage of our living. As people live healthier within clean air, we want architecture to be a beautiful and useful artifact that holds human life generously. We, aoa architects, strives to create a more prosperous and healthy relationship between people and society through space and clear construction that adds value to life.

서재원은 단국대와 경기대 건축전문대학원을 졸업하고, 진아건축도시에서 SK 플래닛 판교 사옥, 한국 외국어대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 백년관 프로젝트 등의 디자인 총괄직을 수행했다. 2013년 에이오에이 아키텍츠 건축사무소를 개소한 이래*, 현대 한국 사회의 다면적 상황을 긍정적 포용의 시선으로 관찰하고 그로 인해 나타나는 부조화와 조화, 구축과 비구축, 합리성과 비합리성, 풍자와 농담 등의 모순적 병치를 통해 한국 사회의 동시대성과 가능성을 담고자 노력하고 있다. 2014년에 설계스튜디오 작업을 엮은 책 <건축의 메타게임 서재원 스튜디오 12명 학생의 프로젝트들>을 출간하였고, 2017년에 문화체육관광부로부터 젊은 건축가상을 수상하며 '올해의 주목할 만한 건축가'로 선정되었다. 또한 <공간>, <건축평단>, <미로>, <A+U (Japan)>, <DOMa (Greece)>, <AREA (Italy)>등 다양한 매체에 글과 그림을 기고하였으며 2021년 TSK Critic Fellowship의 수상자로 선정되었다. 그 외 2021젊은건축가상, 정림학생건축상, 2025 베니스 비엔날레 예술감독 심사위원을 역임한 바 있으며 서울시 공공건축가, 교육청 꿈담건축가로도 활동하였다. 2024년 3월에 <잃어버린 한국의 주택들>(세종우수학술도서 선정)을 출간하였고, 포르투갈에서 열린 MAM2025에 초청받아 전시 참여하였으며, 2025년에는 영국의 바틀렛 건축학교와 스위스의 로잔공대에서, 2026년에는 미국의 하버드 디자인 대학원에서 초청 특강을 하였다. 현재 서울대학교 건축학과에 출강하여 학생들을 가르치고 있다.
Jaewon Suh studied architecture at Dankook University and the Graduate School of Architecture at Kyonggi University (gSAK). He practiced at Jina Architects, where he served as a design principal for several major projects. Since founding aoa architects in 2013*, he has been trying to capture the contemporaneity and possibilities of Korean society through contradictory juxtapositions such as dissonance and harmony, (a)tectonics, rationality and irrationality, satire and jokes. In 2014, he published a book titled <Metagame 12 Architecture: Jaewon Projects Student Suh of with>, and in 2017, he was named a "Remarkable Architect of the Year" and won the Korean Young Architect Award. He also contributes texts and drawings to various media such as <SPACE>, <Architecture Critic>, <Labyrinth>, <A+U (Japan)>, <DOMa (Greece)>, and <AREA (Italy)>, and was awarded the 2021 TSK Critic Fellowship. In addition, he has served as a juror for the 2021 Young Architect Award, the Junglim Student Architecture Award, and the selection committee for the 2025 Venice Biennale Artistic Director. He has also been active as a public architect for Seoul City. In March 2024, he published a book titled <In Search of Lost Korean Houses>. In fall 2024, he was invited to exhibit at MAM2025 in Porto, Portugal. He has delivered guest lectures at major international institutions, including The Bartlett School of Architecture in London (co-hosted by CSM and UCL) and a design studio at EPFL in Switzerland in 2025, followed by the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) in 2026.
