옛것들이 아직 많이 남은 동네 서촌에 정착하기로 마음먹은 집주인의 마음에서 부터 설계는 시작된다. 주변의 한옥에서 보이는 처마와 담장, 옆집 다가구 주택의 베이윈도우, 사람들을 반기는 구멍 가게의 어닝, 집밖으로 내놓은 화분들은 새로 지어지는 청운동 작은집이 어떠한 모습을 띄어야 하는지 넌지시 알려준다. 신축되지만 원래 있었던 듯, 가능한 요란하지 않고 뽐내지 않으려는 태도로 집은 익숙한 형태와 평범한 언어들로 동네에 말을 건넨다. The design starts from the heart of the owner of the house who decided to settle in Seochon, a small town where a lot of old things still remain. The eaves and fences seen from the surrounding hanok, the bay window of the multi-family house next door, the awnings of the store that welcomes people, and the flowerpots outside the house all hint at what the newly built the petit house should look like. Newly built, but as if they were there, the house speaks to the neighborhood with familiar shapes and ordinary language, with an attitude that is as unobtrusive as possible.
집은 동네의 가벼운 건축어휘를 따르면서도 단단한 존재감을 가진다.

초등학생이 된 아이와 미술을 전공한 아내를 위해 1층에는 작업공간이 들어선다. 낮 시간에 집에서 많은 시간을 함께 보낼 아이와 아내를 생각하는 남편의 마음이 담긴 것이다. 높은 개방감을 갖기 위해 바닥은 지면보다 약간 낮아지고 그로 인해 거리로 난 창문도 바닥으로 내려앉아 마치 작은 집이 달라붙어 있는 듯 하다. 붉은 벽돌이 깔린 현관은 집에 따뜻함을 더하고 환봉 루버의 개방적인 출입문은 동네와 단절되지 않으려는 집주인의 배려이다. The first floor houses a workspace for the child who is now an elementary school student and the wife who is majoring in art. It is a reflection of the husband's thoughts on his child and wife who will spend a lot of time together during the day. In order to create a sense of openness, the floor is slightly lower than the ground, and as a result, the windows facing the street are lowered to the floor, making it seem as if the small house is attached. The red brick entrance adds warmth to the house, and the open door with the round louver is the consideration of the homeowner who does not want to be cut off from the neighborhood.

1층은 주차공간을 포함한 다양한 기능실들로 이루어진 반면 2층은 하나의 큰 지붕아래 거실과 방들이 들어선다.
The first floor consists of various functional rooms including a parking space, while the second floor contains the living room and other rooms under one large roof.
컴팩트한 1층에 반해 2층은 거실과 주방, 식사 공간이 하나로 이루어진 또 하나의 집이다. 경사지붕이 그대로 드러난 높은 천장은 마치 거대한 텐트를 친것 마냥 가족 모두를 하나의 공간안에서 친밀감을 높인다. 부부방 서재의 장지문, 동그란 원형창, 지붕을 지지하는 우뚝선 기둥, 반복적인 창은 해외 타지 생활을 오래한 집주인에게 다양한 추억들을 떠올리게 한다. 외부 마감은 경제적인 스터코를 사용하되 1층에서 부터 2층으로 이르는 동안 질감을 달리하여 시각적 풍요로움을 더한다. 이 집은 가족과 사회에 따뜻하고 배려깊은 마음을 지닌 집주인 부부의 성격이 그대로 반영된 결과이다. Contrary to the compact second floor, the third floor is another house with a living room, kitchen and dining area in one. The high ceiling, with its sloping roof exposed, strengthens the intimacy of the whole family in one space as if they had pitched a huge tent. Traditional sliding wooden door in the guest and study room, round windows, towering pillars supporting the roof, and repetitive windows evoke various memories for the homeowner who has lived abroad for a long time. For the exterior finish, economical stucco is used, but the texture is different from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor, giving it visual richness. This house is the result of reflecting the character of the homeowner couple who have a warm and considerate heart for family and society.
